Angelini, Shangri-La’s stunning
Italian restaurant has received high praise for its exciting cuisine
and outstanding architectural design.
As Angelini faces the Chao Phraya
River the designers were inspired by boats on the river comparing
the Thai long-tail boats to Venetian gondolas. Thus, they decided to
create a restaurant which incorporated many Venetian elements and
used a design concept partly based on the idea of a Venetian palazzo
(Palace).
Three major elements or themes
were incorporated into the design : use of rich gold and black
colors, decorations featuring colorful Venetian-type glass and
finaly a theatrical element highlighted in the person of Pulcinella
and amusing figure who appears frequently in the restaurant most
noticeably in a large oil painting in the bar area.
The menu at Angelini is
traditional Italian cuisine influenced by many of Italy’s diverse
regions. However, the presentation of the food is inspired by the
restaurant’s décor and is uniquely dramatic. Angelini is open for
lunch, dinner and snack until late. The restaurant features an open
kitchen and pizza oven and has a lively bar with nightly
entertainment.
