The legendary of The Jim Thompson House started from James H.W. Thompson, founder of the world-famous Jim Thompson Thai Silk Company first come to Thailand at the end of the Second World War as an officer of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). He liked the country so much that later, on being discharged from the service, he decided to return to Thailand and make it his home.

The Jim Thompson Thai house compound consists of six traditional Thai-style teak houses that were purchased from several owners and brought to their present location from Ban Krua and Ayutthaya. Construction of the reassembled Thai houses was completed in 1959.
